Mike Deodato’s style range from high energy drawings to a noir photorealism. Deodato’s lifelong love for comics comes from his late father, a comics artist himself, who guided his son’s artistic growth. In the ‘90s, Deodato took the US market by assault swithcing his original realist style to a more dynamic one, influenced by early Image Comics, and made his name with a popular run on DC Comics’ Wonder Woman. Soon, Deodato became one of the most prolific and in demand artists of that decade, with credits that include Marvel’s Avengers, Elektra, The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man and Thor. Eventually, he reduced his workload and reinvented his art once again, creating a darker, more detailed style, experimenting it in a Nightcrawler story showcased in X-Men Unlimited.
Deodato then managed to draw one of his favorite series to date: The Incredible Hulk, written by Bruce Jones. After many years as a Marvel exclusive artist, some of his credits include Witches, New Avengers, Amazing Spider-Man, Thunderbolts, Infinity Wars, Savage Avengers and Marvel Comics #1000. Since 2019 has been working exclusively on creator-owned projects like Berserker Unbound, for Dark Horse and Bad Mother, Redemption and The Resistance for AWA Studios.
1. What inspired you to become an artist?
My Dad. He created one of the first comic books in my region, back in 1963. He nurtured my passion for comics, bought me lots of them. Also taught me a great deal during the time we worked together producing comics for Brazil.
2. Please tell us about the artwork which, you are most proud of.
Berserker Unbound, created by me and Jeff Lamire is certainly one of my best creations.
3. What main statement did you want to make with that artwork?
I just want to express myself, telling stories that matter to me.
4. What else you wanna tell us about your art?
Neal Adams is my main influence in comics, I respect hi a great deal and I feel lucky to be able to call him a friend. It was him who coined the best definition about my art: Dynamic realism.
5. What do you recommend a new NFT artist to look out for?
Just express yourself, don’t care abou trends, the only person you have to please is yourself.
6. How do you see the future of NFTs?
I see more and more artists and collectors joining the world of NFTs. The future is bright.
„Thank you Mike - express yourself and share it with us. Great!“ Pirates_of_art
